The Sports Programme
Danube International School offers a wide range of sporting opportunities for the students. As well as developing skills related to individual sports, the programme facilitates positive social interaction while also encouraging students to be committed and to persevere.
There are a large number of different sports that take place in the afternoon activities programme. Some of these take place within the school buildings, either in the school gymnasium or in the school theatre. There is room here for indoor activities that include such sports as football, basketball and badminton. Other sports such as swimming take place in an outside pool.
We are also very fortunate to have access to a sports club about two minutes walk from the main school building. This enables the students to be able to enjoy outdoor sports like football and tennis.
The sports programme in the Elementary School is non-competitive in nature. The Secondary School is part of the Danube Valley Athletic Conference which includes international schools from Salzburg, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. The school fields teams in Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Cross-country and track and field across the age ranges. The school competes as the Danube Dragons.
As an international school in Austria we also take pride in our commitment to winter sports. We have a very successful school Ski Team that takes part in regular competitions during the winter months both within the Danube Valley and with other larger international schools. The Ski Team has proved to be particularly successful.
